The Problem: I Was Constantly Switched On
For a long time, I felt like I was constantly switched on.
Surrounded by screens, notifications, work, noise, and the endless stimulation of modern life, it became difficult to truly slow down. Even when my body was resting, my mind often wasn't.
I felt mentally busy, physically tense, and increasingly disconnected from the natural world.
That's when I discovered one of the simplest practices in my daily routine:
Grounding.
The Method: Getting Back to the Earth
For me, grounding means spending time barefoot outdoors: walking on grass, soil, sand, or natural stone.
It sounds almost too simple.
But taking off my shoes and feeling the ground beneath my feet gives me an immediate reason to slow down.
My attention moves away from my phone and the endless thoughts in my head. I become more aware of my surroundings, my body, and the present moment.
I don't see grounding as a miracle cure.
I see it as a way to recalibrate.
A way to step away from the artificial pace of modern life and reconnect with something more natural.
How I Apply It
I keep the practice simple.
Whenever I can, I spend a few minutes barefoot outside.
You can try:
- Walking barefoot on grass or sand
- Standing outside with your feet on natural ground
- Taking a barefoot walk at the beach
- Spending a few quiet minutes in your garden
- Combining grounding with sunlight and deep breathing
You don't need an elaborate routine.
Even a few minutes can become a valuable moment of pause in an otherwise busy day.
Creating a Grounding Ritual
This is where the practice becomes powerful for me.
Instead of seeing grounding as another thing on my health checklist, I turn it into a ritual.
Shoes off. Phone away. Feet on the earth.
I take a few deep breaths and simply notice what's around me.
The temperature. The sounds. The feeling of the ground beneath my feet.
It's a small reminder that I don't always need to be doing something.
Sometimes, I just need to stop.
My Philosophy
Modern life asks us to spend a lot of time disconnected from the natural environment we evolved in.
Grounding is one small way I choose to reconnect.
Not to escape modern life, but to create moments of balance within it.
Less stimulation. More presence. Less time in my head. More connection with my body and the world around me.
Sometimes, the simplest rituals are the ones we need most.
Take off your shoes. Step outside. And give yourself a few minutes to reconnect with the earth.
